Outdoors

Outside the lounge area, and also accessible from the ground floor bedroom, is a private stone walled patio area of nearly 50 sq.m. It’s a proper sun trap where you can while away the hours on a deck chair or under the parasol., and is perfect for containing small children and dogs. With the ability to open up the stunning floor to ceiling oak bi-fold doors, the patio allows for indoor-outdoor entertaining.  A long hardwood table and chairs (with outdoor cushions) can seat eight very comfortably, and the large easy to use gas-fired barbecue is very popular on sunny evenings.

Over the wall from the patio is the pond, where you can relax on the grassy banks and either watch the clouds float overhead or enjoy a variety of wildlife comnig and going… frogs and newts are resident; large numbers of dragonflies dance above the water in summer; wagtails, swifts and swallows frequently visit; and you might get lucky and see a kingsisher or heron. More likely the farm cats.

Alongside the hardstanding where guests park their cars, there is a grassed recreation area with a climbing frame, slide and swings for the kids. Beyond that is the orchard, with a tree swing and a sturdy oak for the adventurous to climb. In season guests are welcome to pick apples, pears, plums, damsons and greengages.  And then up the slope we have two fields. Occasionally we have sheep on the land – go say hello, they can be surprisingly friendly. Otherwise we keep the fields mown and guests are free to play ball games, fly a kite, or have a picnic up there. From the top you get stunning views over the Dart Valley towards Dartmoor.

Games Room

Double Height vaulted Games Room

An entire wing of the the barn has been retained in its original full-height form, with exposed oak roof trusses and thatch. This is the spectacular games room, a boon on wet weather days, popular with all ages.

Here you will find a full sized table tennis table (bats and balls provided); a full sized pool table (with cues and both pool and snooker balls available); a full sized dartboard (with darts and  competition oche).

Fire Safety

Due to the flammable nature of thatched roofs, please note that we (and our insurance company) do not allow smoking, candles or any other naked flames in the barn – including the games room. Fire pits are also forbidden. The gas-fired barbecue can be safely used in the area allocated on the patio, or by arrangement, be moved onto a recreation area near the orchard.
